Let’s Make Some Broth

ORGANIC BONE BROTH

Your grandmother was right again. Chicken soup is good for the body and soul. And Bone Broth is even better. Bone broth is an ancient food that traditional cultures have been using and enjoying for centuries. It reduces inflammation and is excellent for the gut. This is the perfect snack for your dog in the cold winter months. It’s a great snack all year, too.

Bone Broth is typically made using bones, preferably organic. They can contain a small amount of meat adhering to the bones. The extensive cooking time along with raw apple cider vinegar (ACV) helps to draw out the nutrients and minerals from the bones. It’s also full of minerals including calcium, silicon, magnesium and phosphorus.

Bone Broth Benefits for your dog (and for you)

NUTRIENT ABSORPTION – It’s a source of bio-available nutrients in an easy to digest form. It also has an amino acid profile and gelatin content that is superb for healing the gut while it enhances the absorption of nutrients from other foods. The higher the quality of food the better the absorption of nutrients. So get your dog on a species appropriate diet.

GUT HEALTH – Bone broth should be a staple if your dog has digestive issues. It contains L-Glutamine which is an amino acid critical to gut health. 90% of a mammal’s immune system in the gut. When we support our dog’s gut, we are supporting their immune system. A strong immune system fights off disease whereas a weak immune system creates a black hole, inviting disease.

JOINTS – It’s packed with joint protecting compounds like glucosamine, chondroitin, hyaluronic acid and other compounds that are beneficial for joint support.

SKIN – Since bone broth uses bones as its base, it offers a high level of collagen which will support hair, skin and nail health. Great for dogs with allergies! Proline, an amino acid is important for the formation of collagen and wound healing.

DETOX – Think of all the chemicals your dog is exposed to – heart worm medications, flea and tick, household and lawn chemicals and of course vaccines. (all of which can easily be swapped out with safe alternatives). The liver accumulates those toxic chemicals. The collective ingredients of the broth act as a liver detox. By detoxing the liver we restore our dog’s overall health.

ANTI CANCER / CHRONIC DISEASE – It contains Proline, which is another amino acid that plays a role in regulating the process of apoptosis. Apoptosis is an important mechanism in the body for getting rid of defective or unnecessary cells. Apoptosis is one of the mechanisms by which a body off-loads potentially malignant cells.

Place the bones in a large pot and cover with four cups of filtered water and Mrs. Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar

Let sit for 30 minutes before heating so that the acid from the vinegar can draw the nutrients out of the bones and become more available

Rough chop the vegetables (except for the parsley and garlic) and add to the stock

Bring to a boil and then cover and simmer for 24 hours for the chicken broth and 48 hours for the beef broth

Add the parsley and garlic for the final 30 minutes

Remove from the pot and strain.  (I like to remove the bones and make a mash with the vegetables and incorporate it into my dogs food)

Drizzle the Bone Broth over food or serve warm by itself.

ENJOY!

Enjoy
Sit back and watch your dog enjoy a super yummy and healthy snack!  I promise you, they will know you put forth the effort to make it.

Warm Wags,
